Electrical and electronic equipment generates heat during operation, so insulation materials must maintain reliable electrical and mechanical performance at elevated temperatures. Epoxy glass laminates are widely used for electrical insulation, but different grades offer different levels of heat resistance. Among the commonly used grades, G11 provides the strongest high-temperature performance.
The most widely used epoxy glass laminates include 3240, G10, FR-4, and G11. Compared with these grades, 3240 is generally intended for less demanding applications. FR-4 offers good flame resistance and typically supports continuous operating temperatures around 130°C, depending on the specific grade and applicable standard. G10 provides similar core performance to FR-4 but is generally formulated without flame-retardant halogens. For applications requiring higher thermal resistance, G11 is a preferred choice, with typical thermal-class performance reaching around 180°C.
G11 epoxy glass laminate is manufactured by impregnating glass fiber cloth with epoxy resin and curing agents, followed by controlled hot pressing at elevated temperature and pressure. This structure gives G11 a combination of high-temperature resistance, high mechanical strength, resistance to voltage stress, low water absorption, excellent dimensional stability, low thermal expansion, and good chemical and corrosion resistance.
These properties make G11 suitable for demanding electrical insulation applications where both temperature and mechanical performance are important. It can maintain reliable insulation performance in challenging environments, including humid and hot conditions as well as dry and cold operating environments. G11 is therefore commonly selected for high-temperature motors, transformers, switchgear, generators, and other electrical equipment requiring Class H insulation performance.
For applications where high-temperature resistance is a key requirement, the choice should not be based on the material name alone. The actual resin system, reinforcement, thermal class, thickness, electrical requirements, and applicable testing standards should all be considered. Different grades may also be optimized for flame resistance, mechanical strength, machining, or other application-specific requirements.
YILONG manufactures G11, G10, FR-4, 3240 and other epoxy glass insulation boards for electrical and industrial applications. The boards feature uniform appearance, smooth and flat surfaces, clean edges, and consistent quality, with production and inspection processes covering key electrical, mechanical, and dimensional properties. YILONG also provides customized thicknesses, sizes, and CNC-machined insulation components according to customer requirements.
In addition to epoxy glass laminates, YILONG supplies phenolic cotton laminates, phenolic paper laminates, mica insulation materials, and other electrical insulation products for motors, transformers, generators, switchgear, and industrial electrical equipment.
