In the field of electrical insulation, synthetic mica tape has become a cornerstone material due to its exceptional thermal stability and electrical resistance. YILONG is proud to announce the launch of its latest synthetic mica tape series, designed to meet the demanding requirements of high-temperature and high-voltage applications. This product is ideal for cable manufacturers, motor and generator production, and other electrical equipment requiring durable insulation solutions.

Synthetic mica, also known as fluorophlogopite, is a high-quality mineral compound that replicates the layered structure of natural mica but delivers higher purity and more stable performance. Manufactured from potassium, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, and fluorine, synthetic mica offers outstanding electrical insulation and thermal endurance. The replacement of hydroxyl (OH⁻) groups with fluorine (F) significantly improves heat resistance and moisture stability, ensuring long-term performance in harsh environments.
Compared to natural mica, synthetic mica provides several advantages that are essential for industrial insulation:
l Higher purity (≥ 99.9%)
l Extremely low iron content (<0.1%), reducing the risk of electrical conductivity
l Uniform flake size and structure, ensuring consistent performance and processing
l Superior thermal stability, maintaining insulation properties at extreme temperatures
These features make synthetic mica tape the preferred choice for high-performance electrical insulation, especially in applications where reliability is critical.
The chemical formula of fluorophlogopite (synthetic mica) is: KMg₃(AlSi₃O₁₀)F₂
This formula includes:
l K: Potassium
l Mg: Magnesium
l Al: Aluminum
l Si: Silicon
l F: Fluorine
l O: Oxygen
The substitution of fluorine for hydroxyl groups enhances the material’s thermal and moisture resistance, which is essential for maintaining electrical insulation under extreme conditions.

YILONG’s synthetic mica tape is manufactured through a precise lamination process. Synthetic mica paper is bonded to a reinforcing backing material such as glass cloth or polyester film. High-performance binders, including silicone or epoxy resins, are used to ensure strong adhesion and thermal resistance. The selection of binder and backing material directly affects the tape’s flexibility, durability, and heat tolerance.
1. Synthetic Mica Crystal Growth
Synthetic mica is produced under controlled high-temperature conditions (around 1300°C) by melting and cooling a precise mixture of potassium fluorosilicates, magnesium oxides, aluminum oxides, and silica. The resulting crystal has high purity and stable layered structure.
2. Mica Paper Formation
The synthetic mica is mechanically processed into thin flakes and formed into mica paper using a water-based sedimentation process. The mica flakes are dispersed in water, deposited onto a mesh, and then dewatered and dried into a flexible sheet.
3. Lamination with Reinforcement Material
To improve mechanical strength and flexibility, the mica paper is laminated with glass fiber cloth, PET film, or glass scrim. This backing provides dimensional stability during cable extrusion and wrapping.
4. Adhesive Application
High-performance adhesive is applied to bond the mica layer and the reinforcement substrate. Silicone resins are typically used for high-temperature performance (over 1000°C), while epoxy or acrylic systems offer strong adhesion and electrical stability.
5. Curing and Rolling
After lamination, the tape is heat-cured to ensure full bonding between layers. The final product is then slit into desired widths and wound into rolls for cable insulation use.
